Put it on repeat
In Weeklane, add "Sunday reset" as a weekly repeating task on Sunday (repeating tasks are part of Weeklane Pro, 7-day free trial) and paste this checklist into the task's note, or add the steps as separate tasks. The weekly planner itself is free.
Short answer
A Sunday reset checklist is a short, repeatable list of steps that closes last week and plans the next one. A good one takes 15 to 30 minutes, fits on one page and covers three things: clear what's left from last week, plan the days ahead, and make Monday morning easy. The builder above gives you a starting point for your situation, then lets you cut it down to what you will actually do.
How to use the builder
- Pick a preset. Solo is the classic weekly review. Family adds meals, chores and the shared calendar. ADHD-friendly adds a timer, a brain dump and a reward. Student adds deadlines, readings and study blocks.
- Switch off what you don't need. A checklist you skip half of is worse than a short one you finish. Aim for the total to stay under 30 minutes.
- Adjust the minutes and order. Put the steps in the order you'll do them, and be honest about time. The total updates as you go.
- Add your own steps. Watering plants, paying a bill, checking the car: anything that keeps coming back every week belongs here.
- Print it or copy it. Stick the printout on the fridge, or paste the text into your planner as a repeating Sunday task.
Why a checklist beats willpower
A weekly reset fails for two reasons: it grows until it takes an hour, or you have to remember what to do every time. A fixed checklist solves both. You don't have to think about the steps, and the time estimate keeps it honest. If the total creeps above 30 minutes, switch something off.
For the reasoning behind each step, and how to keep the habit going when a week goes wrong, read the full Sunday reset routine guide. If you plan with ADHD, the ADHD weekly planner guide has a gentler version.
Frequently asked questions
What should be on a Sunday reset checklist?
At minimum: empty your capture points, tick off what got done, move or delete leftovers, check the week's fixed appointments, pick three outcomes, spread tasks across days, and decide Monday's first task. Families and students usually add meals, chores, deadlines or bags.
How long should a Sunday reset take?
Between 15 and 30 minutes for most people. The builder adds up the minutes per step so you can see the total and cut steps if it grows too long.
Is my checklist saved?
Yes, in this browser only (local storage). Nothing is sent to a server. Clearing your browser data or switching devices resets it, so print or copy the list if you want to keep it.
What is the difference between a Sunday reset and a weekly review?
They are mostly the same idea. A weekly review often focuses on work and projects; a Sunday reset usually includes home things too, like meals, laundry and bags. Pick the preset that fits and edit from there.
Can I add the checklist to Weeklane?
There is no one-tap import. In Weeklane, create a task called "Sunday reset", set it to repeat weekly on Sunday (a Weeklane Pro feature, with a 7-day free trial) and paste the copied checklist into the task, or add each step as its own task.
