How to Connect Your To-Do List to Claude (3 Ways)
Claude can do more than write a list in the chat. Connected to a to-do app, it can add, move and check off real tasks. Here are the three ways to set that up, compared side by side.
Published Updated
Which route fits depends on where your tasks live today and how much you want Claude to do. The table further down compares them; the sections before it explain each one and how to set it up.
What "connecting" actually means
Without a connection, Claude can write you a great list, but only inside the chat. It cannot see your real tasks, and nothing it writes reaches your phone. A connector changes that. It gives Claude a small set of actions in another app, such as "add a task" or "move these tasks to Friday", and you sign in once to allow it.
Most connectors use MCP (Model Context Protocol), an open standard for plugging apps into AI assistants. You do not need to know how it works. What matters is which actions the app exposes, and that you can see and undo what the assistant did.
Way 1: Claude and Apple Reminders on iPhone
On iPhone and iPad, the Claude app can work with some of Apple's own apps, including Reminders and Calendar, once you grant access. You can ask it to create a reminder or check what is on a list. Claude's help page on using Claude with iOS apps lists what is supported today.
- Good for: people who already live in Apple Reminders and want quick voice-style capture.
- Limits: iPhone and iPad only, so not on Android, and Reminders has no week view, so planning a whole week is harder to see.
Way 2: A to-do app from Claude's connector directory
Claude has a directory of reviewed connectors, and several to-do apps are in it. This is the easiest route for most people, because there is nothing to paste. The steps are the same for every app:
- Open Connectors. On claude.ai or in the Claude app, go to Settings (in some versions Customize), then Connectors, and browse or search the directory.
- Find your app and click Connect. Or open the app's directory listing directly.
- Sign in. Use the same account you use in the to-do app.
- Approve the permissions. Click Allow. In a chat, the connector now appears in the tools menu.
Example: Weeklane is listed in Claude's connector directory. Click Connect, sign in with the same Apple or Google account you use in the app, and click Allow. You need Weeklane 3.0 or later, sign-in with Apple or Google in the app, and Weeklane Pro (lifetime unlock included). Todoist also has a Claude connector; its help page has the steps.
Way 3: A custom connector with a server URL
If an app has an MCP server but is not in the directory, or you prefer to add it by hand, you can add it as a custom connector: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, give it a name and paste the server URL the app gives you. Then sign in and click Allow, as above. Weeklane's server URL is https://mcp.weeklane.app/mcp, which is handy if you use another MCP app as well.
This route is mostly for people who use open-source or self-hosted tools. Which Claude plans can add custom connectors, and how many, can change, so check your plan in Claude's help center before you start.
The three ways compared
| Apple Reminders (Way 1) | Todoist (Way 2) | Weeklane (Way 2 or 3) | Any MCP app (Way 3) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Where Claude works with it | Claude app on iPhone and iPad | claude.ai, desktop and mobile apps | claude.ai, desktop and mobile apps | Wherever your plan allows custom connectors |
| Your tasks sync to | Apple devices | Todoist on all its platforms | iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android | Depends on the app |
| Add and edit tasks | Create reminders; see Claude's help page | Yes, see Todoist's help page | Yes, up to 50 at once | Depends on the app |
| Move and complete tasks | See Claude's help page | See Todoist's help page | Yes, one at a time or in bulk | Depends on the app |
| Repeating tasks and reminders | Reminders are the point | See Todoist's help page | Yes, both | Depends on the app |
| Undo the assistant's change | By hand | By hand or in Todoist | Yes, its last change, from the chat or the app | Depends on the app |
| Week view | No | Upcoming view | Yes, the whole app is the week | Depends on the app |
| Cost on the app side | Free, built in | Free plan and paid plans; check Todoist | Needs Weeklane Pro | Depends on the app |
First prompts to try after connecting
Start small, check the result in the app, then build up. These five cover most of a normal week:
1. Plan my week: gym Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7, dentist Thursday at 10 with a reminder 30 minutes before. 2. Move everything from Thursday to Friday. 3. What's left on my list for today? 4. Make "water the plants" repeat every Sunday. 5. Undo that last change.
If you have a long list in your head, start with a brain dump to AI and let Claude add the sorted week in one go.
Bonus: let Claude switch on Task Lock
Weeklane is, as far as we know, the only planner where Claude can also control an app blocker. Task Lock keeps the apps you choose locked on iPhone and iPad until today's tasks are checked off. Once you have set it up on your phone, Claude can tell you whether it is on, turn it on or off, set the time it starts locking, allow or turn off breaks, and switch between block lists you saved. It cannot see or choose which apps are blocked; you pick those on the phone in Apple's Screen Time picker.
A prompt like "Turn on Task Lock from 9:00 with my Social list, and no breaks" plans the morning and protects it in one message. The app blocker to-do list guide explains the idea, and how to block Instagram until your tasks are done walks through a real setup.
Staying safe: permissions, undo and disconnecting
- Read before you approve. Claude shows which tool it wants to use. For big changes, ask it to list the changes first and wait for your OK.
- Grant only what you need. Connectors ask for access when you connect. You can usually choose whether Claude asks before each action.
- Know your undo. In Weeklane, every AI change is listed under Settings → Plan with AI, and you or Claude can undo the last one. Claude cannot see shared projects, only your personal tasks.
- Disconnect any time. Remove the connector in Claude's Connectors settings, and in Weeklane tap Revoke next to the assistant.
- Privacy. Weeklane does not sell your tasks or use them to train AI; the assistant's own privacy terms apply.
Frequently asked questions
Can Claude add tasks to my to-do list?
Yes, once you connect a to-do app. With a connector from Claude's directory, such as Weeklane or Todoist, Claude can add tasks and, depending on the app, move, edit and complete them. Without a connector, Claude can only write a list inside the chat.
Can Claude set reminders on iPhone?
Yes. On iPhone and iPad, the Claude app can create reminders in Apple Reminders once you allow it. On Android there is no built-in Reminders access; use a to-do app connector instead, which also works on the web and desktop.
Which to-do apps work with Claude?
Any app with a Claude connector or an MCP server. Weeklane and Todoist are in Claude's connector directory, Apple Reminders works through the Claude iPhone app, and other apps with an MCP server can be added as custom connectors.
Do I need a paid Claude plan to use connectors?
It depends on the connector type and can change. Check Claude's help center for your plan. On the app side, Weeklane's Plan with AI needs Weeklane Pro.
Can Claude delete my tasks? How do I undo a change?
If the app allows it, yes, so read what Claude plans to do before you approve. In Weeklane, Claude can undo its own last change, and every AI change is listed under Settings → Plan with AI, where you can undo it or revoke access.
Does Claude work with my to-do app on Android or Mac?
Yes, through a connector. The connector runs on Claude's side (claude.ai, desktop and mobile apps), and the to-do app syncs the changes to your devices. Weeklane syncs to iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android within seconds.
Connect Claude to a weekly planner
Weeklane shows your week as seven short day lists on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android. The weekly planner is free; Plan with AI is part of Weeklane Pro.
